Merry season’s greetings!

If all you want for Christmas is a brand new Sexy Detective sketch (Christ, get your priorities right! What about world peace? A cliche, sure, but a good’un. At least get yourself a new flatscreen or something first!), then boy have we got a gift for you.

Last weekend, not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse… ‘cept Team Sexy D, who beavered away most festively on a shiny new Christmas-themed sketchy bauble. We present it now in all its glory. If you enjoy it, pass it on to your peeps!

There’s Something About Tommy

Team Sexy Detective are currently soaking in all manner of literary, cultural and illegal material in an effort to find inspiration for a new shows-worth of sketches. Mike has sequestered himself inside a dojo to find his centre, his animal familiar and his sense of self. Amy has sequestered herself inside a cabin in the New Zealand alps in an effort to become one with nature. Sean has sequestered himself at the bottom of a bottle of absinthe; we’ve not seen him for some time.

In other words, we haven’t got any new material. What we do have is one of our favourite sketches from our last revue, Little Tommy Perkins, online for the first time. It’s good for laughing at.

Yay success!

Last weekend saw the Search for Australia’s Funniest Filmmakers competition get underway at WA’s Rottofest 2011, and in a pleasant turn of events, The Sexy Detective romped home with the award for Best Skit. Cheers, judges with impeccable taste!

A few of our sketches were nominated in the competition, one of which was listed as “Untitled” on the Rottofest website. Turns out it was this little ditty, Dinner Party. Apparently the following 36 seconds is worth $500, something we dare not argue with.

In Competition

So The Sexy Detective has three skits in competition at in a nationwide film sketch comedy comp! Or maybe it’s four skits. We’re not sure. Not entirely sure which sketches got in, either.

Rottofest 2011 – a weekend of comedy, film and music held on Rottnest Island off the WA coast – is home to a competition named Search for Australia’s Funniest Filmmakers (check it out here). Sexy D submitted a few entries, and according to the Rottofest website our sketches Medieval Name, If I Could Do It All Again and, erm, “Untitled” all made the grade.

We are excited as you to find out which one is Untitled. There’s also a film in the running called Coffee, which might be ours too.

Either way, we don’t really care – thanks for the judges for their excellent taste! Rottofest 2011 is on this weekend starting September 3, and the schedule indicates there are film sketch heats on the Saturday and finals on the Sunday. If any WA-siders are going along, be sure to laugh and cheer when our skits come on!

It’s been a month or so since team Sexy Detective returned from a successful and blazingly fun season at the Wild West Comedy Festival in Perth. It’s a tremendous festival organised by a gaggle of most excellent people and featuring the talents of some of Australia’s funniest (and nicest) comedians. So good work to all involved!

We have now burrowed in for a mini-hibernation in order to write new material and plot new plans. This hibernation shall probably be brief, though, so you can expect to hear from us in the not too distant future. In the meantime, enjoy another sketch from Stray Cats and Show Rats!

We at The Sexy Detective have shut ourselves off from society since December in order to busily put together a 2011 battleplan. There are big things in motion… but since we can’t tell you about any of them for the moment, we’ve instead uploaded a new sketch.
