Merry season’s greetings!

If all you want for Christmas is a brand new Sexy Detective sketch (Christ, get your priorities right! What about world peace? A cliche, sure, but a good’un. At least get yourself a new flatscreen or something first!), then boy have we got a gift for you.

Last weekend, not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse… ‘cept Team Sexy D, who beavered away most festively on a shiny new Christmas-themed sketchy bauble. We present it now in all its glory. If you enjoy it, pass it on to your peeps!

There’s Something About Tommy

Team Sexy Detective are currently soaking in all manner of literary, cultural and illegal material in an effort to find inspiration for a new shows-worth of sketches. Mike has sequestered himself inside a dojo to find his centre, his animal familiar and his sense of self. Amy has sequestered herself inside a cabin in the New Zealand alps in an effort to become one with nature. Sean has sequestered himself at the bottom of a bottle of absinthe; we’ve not seen him for some time.

In other words, we haven’t got any new material. What we do have is one of our favourite sketches from our last revue, Little Tommy Perkins, online for the first time. It’s good for laughing at.

Semi-Sexy Rawwwwr

Better result than last year. That’s all that matters.

Dave’s 2011 foray into the Raw Comedy festival has, to date at least, proven successful! He’s made it through the semi final on this Wednesday at 8pm at The Sit Down Comedy Club.

If you’re keen to support – or if you’re reluctant to support but will be dragged along by a friend, family member or co-worker – we recommend booking tickets in advance, as apparently these Raw semi final things attract quite a crowd. We also recommend that when you watch the sketch, you laugh.

UPDATE: A little bird tells me that Sexy D’s Mike Skillz has also made the semis with his A grade original stand up stylings. Check him out on Tuesday the 15th!

Once again, Dave from The Sexy Detective is leaping into the Raw Comedy fray, foolhardily wielding nothing but a comedy sketch in a room where only stand up bits will do.

In 2010 it was the Prison Rules sketch. This year, Dave would love you to lend your not inconsiderable support as he performs Sexy D’s Video Will sketch from last year’s Stray Cats and Show Rats revue.

Do you like drama? Do you like mysteries? Do you like murder? No? Is that because of all the blood and guts and death? Well, what about fictional, funny murders then?

The Sexy Detective Show will be returning for an all new season in the coming months… but first, take the chance to see four of the troupe’s performers in Impromafia’s new off-the-cuff season, Agatha Holmes!

Agatha Holmes is, funnily enough, a case of Agatha Christie meets Sherlock Holmes in an improvised comedy concoction of murderous proportions. When five suspects gather together in an old English manor house, there’s bound to be murders galore – and there is, at a rate of one per night on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays between July 1 and 10. The audience nominates the killer, the weapon and the tell-tale clue, leaving Impromafia’s improvisers to make up the rest.

Check out Mike, Amy and Dave in all six shows – as a bloodthirsty secretary, a scandalous screen star and a Doctor Watson type, respectively – or pop along on the closing night to get a bonus slab of special guest star and Sexy D fave, Luke “Big Sexy” Allan!

Been missing the live Sexy Detective sketchables? Dry your eyes.

Sexy D’s Dave (erm, that is, me) will be performing a sketch-shaped monologue in the ever-popular Raw Comedy comp next week. How a character sketch is going to go down in a stand-up comedy dominated competition remains to be seen, but I’ll give it something approaching a go.

Anyway, gosh, you should probably come along and support him. Er, me. The sketch in question is an old live favourite that has not been seen since 2007. I can only recommend heading down to the Paddo to see some great Brisbane comedy and, let’s face it, probably some terrible Brisbane comedy as well. Let’s just hope that I don’t fall into the latter category, eh?
